Safety in the workplace is of paramount importance and one of its key components is the correct grounding of electrical systems. But what exactly does that mean , and why is it so important?
What is grounding system verification?
Grounding system verification is a process that ensures that electrical systems are properly protected and safe for use. This process is regulated by the Presidential Decree no. 462 of 2001 , which defined a system of implementation procedures for the commissioning, approval, verification and certification of earthing systems.
Why is this important?
The verification ascertains the operation of systems that protect people and equipment from potential electrical hazards, atmospheric discharges or explosion hazards. In addition, employers are required by law to carry out periodic checks of the electrical systems and to keep the verification report, under penalty of administrative and/or criminal sanctions.

How often should the verification be carried out?
Checks must be carried out periodically, as well as in extraordinary circumstances, such as after a breakdown or accident. According to Presidential Decree 462, checks must be carried out with a certain periodicity, depending on the type of system and the place where it is installed:
> Every 2 years for systems with characteristics that fall within the scope of the activities subject to fire prevention controls or that are identified with at least a medium fire risk in the DVR, or in systems installed in medical environments or construction sites. This includes hospitals, nursing homes, surgeries and doctors’ surgeries, construction sites and places at increased risk in the event of fire such as textile industries, petrol stations or garages.
