Non-destructive testing
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is an examination, test and survey conducted using methods that do not alter the material and do not require the destruction or removal of samples from the structure under examination. Hence the definition of non-Destructive. On this page you will find all the NDT that CR Inspection has to offer for you.
SURFACE ROUGHNESS TEST
One of the indispensable measuring instruments within a mechanical machining workshop, and not only, is the roughness tester. This instrument is used to check and measure the level of roughness of a surface profile of any product. In fact, the surface finish is undoubtedly one of the most important characteristics to ensure a better coupling between mechanical sliding surfaces or to establish the quality of a coating or plating of certain materials.
Using our PosiTector® tool, we can ascertain and verify the surface of a given material that requires high degrees of surface finish.
Leak testing with SDT ultrasonic detector
The SDT ultrasonic instrument is the most versatile in our equipment for predictive maintenance, giving our customers the opportunity to better understand the state of health of their systems such as compressed air, vacuum, electrical or leak tests of non-pressurized fuel tanks through a vacuum pump that puts the tank under test in depression (ATEX 94/9/EC certified instrument), of gaskets and piping or valve monitoring.
In this way, it is possible to keep energy costs under control, thus improving the quality and life of the systems.
Acoustic Emission (AE)
The non-destructive tests carried out with the Acoustic Emission technique are based on the acquisition of ultrasonic signals, emitted by the examined piece, which allow to detect and locate indications on pressure vessels.
In particular, we specialize in LPG and methane storage tanks. The Acoustic Emission Control provides a complete instant analysis of the structure and integrity of the vessel that we are going to verify. The main advantage of Acoustic Emission Control is to verify the integrity of the containers without the need to empty and/or remediate them.
UT checks with defect method
By means of ultrasound, welds or mechanical components or parts in the pre-processing phase are analyzed. With this method it is possible, through one or more probes, to verify the presence or absence of defects within a component/part.
Thermographic surveys
Thermography is a diagnostic investigation technique used in various fields. It consists of detecting the thermal radiation emitted by a body through a thermal imaging camera. Today, more and more often, it is applied in the context of electrical systems to allow the presence of excessive dissipation to be investigated, improving its efficiency.
An electrical system, especially if the operation of a company is linked to it, cannot be turned off, not even for periodic maintenance: this would lead to significant economic losses.
The thermal imaging camera performs an in-depth investigation of the systems in operation, giving a complete picture of the problems and criticalities of the system, without disabling it. Thermography for electrical systems and all other applications is regulated by the UNI 10824-1 standard. INAIL rewards companies that periodically perform a thermographic analysis in the context of electrical risk, reducing the insurance premium by up to 28% based on the size of the company.
The OT24 form “for the reduction of the average rate for prevention” that employers can send to the Institute every year in order to obtain a reduction in the average rate of the INAIL tariff, reports in item A-4 the reduction of electrical risk by thermography.
For thermographic surveys, interpretation and evaluation must be carried out by certified persons in accordance with Levels 1 and 2 provided for by the UNI EN ISO 9712 standard.
MT checks by yoke (magnetoscopy)
Magnetoscopy (or Magnetic Particles, MT) is a non-destructive test used to identify indications on the surface (or immediately below) of metal and ferromagnetic pieces. The control takes place with the yoke that magnetizes the piece in such a way as to allow the magnetic particles contained in the spray liquid to arrange themselves according to the magnetic field. This effect allows the particles to penetrate and therefore to show a discontinuity or defect on the piece or on a weld. We are generally employed for these types of control over twenty years of crane investigations.
PT (Liquid Penetrant) Controls
This non-destructive testing method is only used to detect indications of surface defects that are not visible to the naked eye. This is possible thanks to the contrast that the penetrant liquid offers on the bottom of the detector. It is widely used for all production phases, from the raw product to the processed component of almost all sectors. It is also applied on welds to detect cracks, cracks, pores or bends.
